We have 11 days until the eggs are to hatch. Mama duck hasn't left the nest for a while so she's hunkering down until the big day. I couldn't wait to get flowers planted in the pot she's sitting in so I bribed her with a water dish full of bread scraps while I dug the plants in the dirt around her.
Much better don't you think? Plus it gives her a little more camouflage from predators.

This duck has been at our pond on and off for many years so she's pretty use to me by now.
Hey ... what's this? It looks like one's hatched out?!

The pressures of being a mother duck at my house takes on a entirely different meaning. If you are sitting on a clutch of eggs... you never know what I may throw under you. This little guy (who we now call Malorie) was brought to us by a young neighbor (Katyrose) who rescued her from being hit by a car on the road. Malorie's duck family was nowhere to be found!
Although our mama duck was somewhat OK with taking the little one in, Malorie knew this wasn't the place for her. She would rather be swimming with the big ducks in the big pond. So until we could find another family to adopt her we filled the kiddie pool with delicious pond water and man was she happy.

It all has a happy ending with Malorie being taken in by a lovely duck family down the road.
The End!
