Snow & Concrete

Even though the calendar says it is spring the weather outside is frightful. But that doesn't stop construction of the new garden. Bundle up baby we're heading out to set up posts in concrete. PLEASE don't make me go out there!! Just one more cup of coffee in front of the wood stove... ! Thoughts of eating fresh corn in August grabs hold and out we go long underwear and all. We were lucky enough to borrow a concrete mixer which will save some time and our aching backs. Notice the pallet of concrete bags. This is one of two that we will use.

Marks good friend Ray shows up ...and well it's kind of fun standing around the mixer chatting... uhh boys...

SMILE!

Although this concrete ain't going to pour itself now will it?

Yes I actually got my hands dirty and boots, jeans, face, hat ... you get the idea.
Notice my little duck friends waiting for a worm handout unlike me .. waiting for a WARM handout. Dang it's cold. It actually started to snow an hour after the last post was poured.

Moving Spiders

Another big day in the garden. The old chicken coop is almost finished. It's been secured on the new foundation with a couple little additions. It's almost too sweet to turn it into a potting shed. Can one put a sign on the door that reads "Please remove shoes"? HMMM That might be pushing it a little but there is already talk of putting in a small wood stove, sink, sitting area, cocktail bar, who doesn't love a glass of wine or gin & tonic after a busy day digging in the dirt? This might be the girls new party palapa!

Here Mark has put cross braces in before the move with the fork lift. He's so smart! Although notice the climbing rose is still attached to the shed. Another plant bites the dust!

Getting ready to move it over the foundation

On the foundation. That looked like it was easy?! Well is wasn't! Another few fingers squished and tempers flared but after 2 hours we were certain this baby was going to stay put.

After cutting off the bottoms of the dry rot barn board that will get skirted with aluminum siding found at the dump. Marks store of choice.

A cute little roof addition to protect the antique window installed which I had found at an antique store for a great deal years ago just waiting for that perfect place to put it.

Almost done. Just needs a couple cedar doors on the other side and the bottom window framed in.

Oh Yeah.. still need to get rid of the spiders!!! This guy popped out from under a board today and in the mild freak out mode I lost my hammer. Dang! Look how big he is. That's a real quarter.

PEEPS

Last night we took a walk through the woods nearby our house. The sun was setting on the beautiful fields and we found the most amazing treasure.

There is a grand old maple tree in which the trunk is developing a large hole from bugs and rot inside the trunk of the tree we spotted a blue glass egg nestled in the wood.

Happy Easter

Jacki
This ones for you!

La Turquie est morte

We have some tragic news to tell you about today. "La Turquie est morte"!! Translation.... the Turkey is dead.

White Volvo VS. Wild Turkey. Volvo won. This turn of events is proof that Wild Turkeys who roam the busy streets will eventually end up being Road Kill. As Pioneer Woman always says "Country Life is full of harsh realities". Can we ask the question though... how does one not see a turkey in the road? It's not like a bunny dashing out in front of your car. These guys mosied. After all they were a bit overweight from eating the neighborhoods leftover pastries. There will most likely be some sort of uproar in the local Whidbey Island Record. Can you see the headlines now? Let's not even go there. We'll keep you posted when Saturdays newspaper comes out.

On a much lighter note in case you forgot ........Easter is this weekend.

After church on Sunday head to your local Easter Egg Hunt. It's always so much fun to see the faces on the little ones finding hidden treasures.
Remember those days?? One year my parents were so into putting the eggs in the best hiding places that my brother and I... mind you we were all of 5 or 6 years old ... didn't find a few of them. But after a few weeks went by it became real clear where the rotten egg stench was coming from. That might have been our last Easter Egg Hunt or maybe that's when they switched to hiding plastic eggs with chocolates in them and really one is way more motivated looking for Chocolate than hard boiled eggs.
Duh!! Isn't that still the case today? You've all had those moments when you've got that sweet tooth and searched high and low in the house for a piece of chocolate. If all else fails we say dig way in the back of the fridge where you hide the ice cream sundae sauce and grab a spoon. One of our favorite brands "Chukar Cherries" from Prosser Washington. This is also good when making mocha's for if you're lucky that last sip will reward you with a cherry!

Have a great weekend!!

New Garden

This spring a new and improved garden at the Myres Farm is being built. Today involved laying a foundation for the old shed slash chicken coop. With the help of Tess and Mark (less help from the dog) the shed now will sit on old concrete blocks and a beautiful concrete floor imprinted with some native plants in the entry as well as Tessie's footprints. My job today was to help with the pour and to demo the chicken coup with a sledge hammer and crowbar.

Heck that sounds like fun!! Well it really was until the sledgehammer pounded my middle finger. OUCH!! I have no idea how that happened because the pain deleted anything in my memory up until that point. I would have taken a picture but it's hideous all purple and huge....

I would much rather show you photos of HUGE spiders & their webs lurking in the corners of the shed which with every whack of the sledgehammer had them crawling my direction. UHHH GROSS!! So if you have an abnormal fear of spiders, LOOK AWAY NOW!!! Little Miss Muffet this means you!!

Phone my family and tell them I've been webbed by a ginormous spider and I won't be home for dinner.

Makes your britches itch huh?

Mark thought it was great!

Here's the new foundation... notice Tess wants to be right in the action. In the end she did get her walk of fame!

Renegade Turkeys

Man these guys are huge!! They are about the same size as Heathers chocolate lab "Teddy" ... who by the way doesn't want to have a thing to do with them. Can you blame him??

This may look like a field trip to the free range Turkey farm....

but instead it's just another morning at Heathers house when the renegade turkeys show up waiting for someone to throw out the stale breakfast pastries. In case you have not been down Bayview Road lately this is a common sighting... Wild Turkeys who I'm pretty sure escaped a local farm. It was probably a break out like the one seen on Chicken Run who flew the coop of Mrs. Tweedy's farm and they are now living the Turkey dream of Croissants in the mornings and attacking children for their lunches in the afternoons.

You won't believe what I saw them doing on the side of the road yesterday morning. Although it is springtime after all!!
I'm already looking forward to Thanksgiving and enjoying a free range croissant fed all Natural Washington (Bayview / Langley) Turkey. You won this time Voodoo lady.

Ah - Ha Moment

You know when you have an AHa moment? When you've discovered something amazing that can change your life. Now we're not talking Oprah style Aha here but more of a superficial, shallow, sometimes vanity driven moment. Sometimes one just can't help themselves getting excited over that perfect "wish I discovered it I could now be a millionaire" something. Pinch yourself... here it is!

Ultra Wear Lip Colour by Chanel.

If there is one thing that might be considered my pet peeve, it's having to reapply lipstick all day long. Well no longer ladies! This stuff stays on until you take it off. Fabulous!!! I can't say that it's been through the real test of Clam & Garlic Pizza from Village Pizzaria (the greasiest & Best around) however so far... I'm a believer.
There are 12 great colors to choose from and you will need to be choosy for the sticker shock of $31.00 per tube will keep you from buying one for every purse. My colour of choice this time around "Rose Pearl". Perfect for spring and transition to summer. Yes I did say Spring. Close enough anyway!! Speaking of and totally off subject but another one of those things that gets me and I now some of you excited. Some very very excited.
"The Chicks are back in town"

Baby Chicks that is. Bayview Farm and Garden as well as Cennex. Get them now while they last, unless that is you are getting a puppy instead. That is never a good combination. There are funny stories about that but will share those another time.
I'm still not sure how I got to the chickens from the lipstick but I am a woman. Multi tasking... sort of!

27 Dresses and 5 Island Girls

With little else to do on an Island.. the girls take to making up there own sort of fun. This weekend involved a movie (27 dresses). Silly movie really. A fluffy romantic comedy about a woman who’s always a bridesmaid, never a bride and the journalist who’s secretly writing about her. To keep in theme and make things a little more interesting the attire for the event was old Bridesmaid dresses. As though that isn't enough one should always have the proper accessories. Jewels, furs and Rubber boots! Mind you it was cold standing in the ticket line. You could not expect we would be in heels. Heather was even sporting a pair of sweats under her bright pink Chiffon.

Music Playing through March from the movie 27 dresses.
